I’ve been working on the new version of this site for several months while also looking for a new job. It has been a slow-going process of experimentation, discovery, and troubleshooting. As I was working on the media gallery, I figured it was a good time to move some of the images from this site over to the new site. So I navigated over to log in, and was greeted by an ominous error message:
“There has been a critical error on your website.”
Hmmm… So after getting in the old fashioned way, I proceeded to add some logging and started disabling plugins. After half an hour of trying different things, I finally got the site to a usable state again. Of course, “usable” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. What this tells me is that it’s about time I nuked the Worstpress instance and swapped over to the new codebase. We had some good times, but this version of the site has been live since 2013 and it’s starting to show. Think about that man—this site is old enough to be an underage drinker!
So keep an eye out for orange traffic cones and hard hats in the form of stuff not working as one would expect. I will try to at least keep the scary error messages at bay.
